A native of Detroit, Michigan, Brandon White is currently a 2012 J.D. Candidate at the University of District of Columbia David A. Clarke Law School. Before law school, Brandon served as the Summit/Issues Director for Michigan Prospect and Michigan Voice. The Michigan Prospect is a think-tank based out Okemos, MI and Michigan Voice is a collaborative of issue-oriented organizations committed to sharing resources in order to increase voter registration for underrepresented and socially responsible communities. In this role, Brandon was responsible for driving home policy victories for progressive local organizations across the state along with planning the Michigan Policy Summit, an action-agenda conference for Michigan’s progressive community
Brandon recently served as Chairman the board for Michigan Citizen Action, Michigan’s largest independent, issue-based citizen’s lobby. He also served on the board as Vice President for Transit Riders United, a Detroit based non-profit dedicated to expanding transportation access and options, including rapid transit.
He is also a national trainer with the Paul Wellstone Action Network. Brandon is a former reporter for the Michigan Messenger, which is an independently-produced political news daily featuring original and investigative reporting.
In 2005, he graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s in General Studies. While at the University of Michigan, he worked with SSAA (Students Supporting Affirmative Action) as a direct action organizer. He was also involved in a number of organizations including serving on the executive boards for the Black Student Union, HEADS (UM’s Black male support network), and IMMAD (Intellectual Minds Making a Difference), an organization that tutored Detroit students on the ACT.
After graduation, he co-founded with Garlin Gilchrist II, The SuperSpade: Black Thought at the Highest Level in November, 2005. The mission of The SuperSpade is to provide actionable commentary on social, political, and personal issues affecting the lives of individuals on a daily basis.
